More and more insurance companies are looking for Proof of Trading to discourage ficticious Motor Traders taking out motor trade insurance to get cheap car insurance.
The typical proof of trading is:
Motor traders - receipts of car sales
Mechanics - receipts of car parts
Car Valeters - receipts of cleaning products
Typically 6 proof of trading will be required, which have taken place in the last 12 months.

Accidents & Convictions: Accidents need to include Fault and Non Fault, all in the last 5 years. Convictions need to indicate the number of motoring convictions

Risk Type: There are two basic motor trade insurance types available. These are Road Risk and Combined Insurance. Road Risk simply covers the vehicles that are owned by the Insurance Policy Holder. Named drivers will be covered under this insurance policy, where applicable however the insured vehicles need to be
owned by the policy holder(s). Vehicles that are in the name of the named driver(s) will NOT be covered.
Combined Insurance will provide insurance cover for both vehicles and for premises. Not only the building can be covered with insurance but also tools can be covered. These tools can be wenches, inspection platforms, diagnostic tools, computers. It is always wise to understand what cover is provided with your tools, be it theft, breakage etc.
Type of Cover: Insurance Cover can be organised which is Fully Comprehensive Insurance; Third Party, Fire & Theft Insurance cover; Third Party only insurance over.
Fully Comprehensive insurance provide insurance cover for not only the vehicle you hit (Third Party) but will also insure your vehicle, even if you are at fault in the accident. This insurance policy is typically the most expensive insurance.
Third Party, Fire & Theft insurance provides insurance cover for third parties, the theft of your vehicle and insurance cover in the event of an electrical fire. It does not cover you for arson.
Third party insurance cover provides the minimum legal cover all vehicles need to have.
